Achieving what you want in 2012

So we’ve started the new year. How many of you have broken resolutions already? It’s outstanding the number of people that make the same resolutions every year, and break them every year. Is it because a thought on New Years Eve is not enough to carry your goal? I think so. Goals need structure and planning.

I’ve been talking on my other site www.SmartNotHard.com.au about planning your year. While I will try to keep these site seperated, I think the post is relevant to my fellow Goal Getters here.

So how can we start the year out smart? Set aside a couple of hours (a day if you can) to work on planning your year. Then do the following:

Mark out all the holidays and important dates.
Create a vision board of what you want to accomplish (and have) this year.
Write a goal for each of those things.
Write out the steps you need to reach each goal, and diarise actions / tasks / appointments for them.
With your holidays, work out how much each one will cost and make sure you can increase your earnings enough to set aside the money needed.

For example if you have a cleaning business and you know that to have the holiday to Fiji you will need an extra $8,000. What does that mean? $8,000 / 50 weeks is $160 a week. Can you put that aside? Will you need to get say 2 extra clients a week at $150 each – less expenses, gst etc to cover it? Then what steps do you need to take to get those extra clients? Could you set aside 10min a day for the next week to get on the phone and do some sales calls? Then put that in your diary and get cracking!!!!

We can all acheive our goals this year. I’m going to share mine here with you over the next few days – then you can hold my accountable.

Good luck and Go For Goal’d.

Giving up on a goal?

Questions

What do you do when someone stomps on your dreams??? I had this experience earlier this week, when I was told that even though My Goal Friend was a good idea, and a clever name etc that it wasn’t really a great business plan and would probably not work!!!! Arhghgh.  Do I give up now, before even finishing? This I feel is part of the story of my life.  When people say it will be hard, or might not work I generally give up.  Is that what I want here? I can tell you then answer to that is a very loud NO!!!!

I really believe that people, women in particular need, want and would thrive in this kind of environment, both online and offline.  I’m going to put these questions out there in the form of a survey, which I hope lots of people will complete.  There are other goal related sites, books, magazines etc, but I find a lot of them too hyped up and I also crave an actual meeting of like minded people.  Some others I find too spiritual, and I really believe I’m not the only person that feels like this.

What am I going to do though, is look at the business and my other business Some Kind Of Bliss with a fine tooth comb and do a Pros and Cons list for both.  Evaluate where I am up to with both, the income being generated versus the expenses and the likes and dislikes of each.  I also need to take into account my strengths and weakness and that I am still a single mum of a 5 year old and I work full-time.  I know women in much harder circumstances have achieved much much more,  just look at JK Rowling!!!! But this is my story, so let’s see what I come up with.

Why am I telling you all of this? Well, sometimes people with the best of intentions throw a spanner in the works.  I don’t think they do this maliciously they just do it with their glasses on, not yours.  Regardless of this, if someone has said or done something that makes you doubt our goals, then maybe it is time to reassess.  If their action has no consequence to you, then you are probably well & truly on the right path.

I would suggest doing the following list:

1) Why do you want his goal?

2) What is it that they said they made you think?

3) What is the best thing that could happen if you achieved this goal?

4) What is the worst thing that could happen if you didn’t achieve this goal?

5) In regards to this goal what are your strengths and weaknesses?

6) What does the market place say about this type of goal? Eg, if you want to join the latest networking group, what are people saying about it.

7) Finally, take some time out in peace and quiet to work out what your heart really thinks about the goal.

When you have finished all if the above – which is what I’ll be doing this week, you should have a clear answer about whether to continue with the goal, modify the goal or stop going for this goal.

Why living your life is so important

Red Dice - Gambling Your Future

With all the tragedy that has gone on in the world recently, it’s no wonder so many of us are taking stock and asking ourselves the million dollar questions. What would I do if I was only given a few more days, weeks, months?

The reality is, not everyone gets this chance – but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be asking ourselves the same questions. I ask you to take 30min out of your day and ask yourself these questions:

1/ What is the line you want on the front page of your funeral booklet?
2/ What is said in the speeches at your funeral by a family member, a workmate and someone whose life you touched?
3/ If money was not a problem (the #1 thing for holding us back), what would you do tomorrow and the day after etc?
4/ Is there one passion or dream that you have never fulfilled that is sitting in your soul waiting to burst out? If so, what is it?
5/ When was the last time you felt crazy with happiness?

We’ll do more work on these questions later, but for now, please just take a moment to remember those that are not getting this opportunity. Some of us are so blessed to be as we are. Not deep in the turmoil of war, or stricken by the angry hand of Mother Nature or even repressed by our sex, colour, race or location.

I for one am thankful.

The difference between a goal and a dream

Target

What is the difference between a goal and a dream??? I have dreams and I have goals. Most people have dreams, but only a small percentage of the population cement these dreams into achievable goals.

A dream is the biggest thing of all. To dream is amazing, but sometimes we need to be a little more realistic.

I have a dream of owning a super yacht. It would be chartered out 10 months a year, and so would become a business and personal pleasure. Is this a goal of mine? No, because I can’t put a time frame on getting it, I can’t measure my success towards getting it and I don’t even know which one I want.

I have a smaller goal towards this dream which is to get back into sailing, starting in February 2011. One day or evening a month. This is specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely!!!! I’ve researched doing it, joined a group that I can sail with, and have been organising myself so I can do it.

I spent years of my childhood living on a 50ft ketch called ‘The Red Highlander’. My family no longer own it, which saddens me, but hasn’t stopped me from my dream. I know when I get out on to open water, or even sit in a park by the harbour my whole view of the world changes. Everything is ok when I am on or near water. Which begs me to ask the question, why on earth do my daughter and I live in an apartment which doesn’t have a pool, let alone be located anywhere near the water??? I know, it’s because in Sydney to live with a pool or by the water you need lots of money or you need to be the kind of person that can find a bargain and do it up. Neither of which is me. It will be one day though….see another dream of mine.

Every goal I set is a step to take me to my dreams. Each decision I make in business, and personally will lead me to my dreams. Are your goals leading you towards you dreams or to the dreams of someone in your life? Chances are you won’t achieve you goals if they are not inline with your bigger dreams. I have learnt this over and over again, I should rephrase that. I have been shown this time and time again, I think now I have finally got it into my head. Yeah!!!!!

Mind Movies

The Big idea

A few years ago I came across Mind Movies.  One of the people who started it was a woman I knew many years ago (in my singing days) called Natalie.  It’s funny, but you pay more attention to something when there is a personal attachment to it I guess.

Anyway, Mind Movies are a powerful Law Of Attraction tool that sososo many people use.  You can do one in lots of ways with lots of different software.  I played around with doing one back when I first discovered it.  It was a huge failure, partly because I spent ages researching what other people were doing with their Mind Movies…..I now know, who cares what other people are doing – it’s about my vision of my future.

The second thing I had to get over, was actually showing it to anyone.  Well I’m over that now.  You can see it here or on You Tube.

The words I have chosen are all 100% true as to how I want my future to look.  Some of the images may be a little extreme – but who knows, maybe I will own a super yacht like Mirabella one day.  I know I will own a yacht, and I guess that’s the important thing.

Anyway, I feel very brave sharing it – so have a look and let me know what you think.
